Nobel Prize Dialogue Singapore 2022

“The Future We Want Together”

The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore is organising the Nobel Prize Dialogue Singapore 2022 in partnership with Nobel Prize Outreach AB (NPO), Sweden and Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) Singapore.

We would like to extend a warm invitation to all students and youth (15-35 years old), from any discipline of study and country within the Asia Pacific, to apply to be a participant during the hybrid event, gaining the opportunity to be engaged in discussion with Nobel Prize Laureates on topics under the theme, ‘The Future We Want Together’.

Six themed discussions, each comprising 10-12 students and one Nobel Laureate, will be held virtually between June to mid-July 2022. The themes are: Education, Climate Change, Health, Happiness, Economic well-being, and Digital well-being.

From these sessions, a total of 12 students will be selected to be part of the discussions held in-person with Nobel Prize Laureates and global thought leaders on Tuesday, 13 September 2022 at the Stamford Ballroom, Raffles City Convention Centre, Singapore.

Of the 12 students, those from overseas will each receive a travel grant of SGD 1000 to attend the event. The remaining participants from the virtual sessions may be invited to be part of the audience in Singapore. All discussions will be held in English, with no translation services.

We emphasise the importance of inclusion and having a diversity of views, and encourage all students who are passionate about the above themes and driven to create positive change to apply, regardless of their level of experience. The application form can be found at tinyurl.com/npdsingapore2022. The deadline is 29 May 2022, 2359 GMT+8.

More about the event

The Nobel Prize Dialogues are conversation-focused, one-day meetings that seek to deepen the dialogue between the research community and the rest of society on topics of global concern. Each meeting brings together a mix of Nobel Laureates and local and international experts. This Nobel Prize Dialogue Singapore will provide a rare opportunity to bridge the gap between generations, through conversations with global thought leaders to explore how to avoid the mistakes of the past and how best to promote humanity’s well-being in the future. To-date, the following Nobel Laureates have confirmed their participation: Paul Romer (Economics 2018), May-Britt Moser (Medicine 2014), Steven Chu (Physics 1997), and Angus Deaton (Economics 2015), with more laureates signing on in the coming weeks.

The Dialogue will comprise six broad areas, in the context of ongoing global crises: Education, Climate Change, Health, Happiness as well as Economic and Digital wellbeing. We believe these are areas that young people are concerned about and we want this unique event to provide opportunities for them to engage with some of the world's foremost thinkers. In addition, the opening session will explore conflict prevention, management and resolution (War and Peace - A Recurring Cycle), as well as the exploration and colonisation of space (Outer Space - The Next Frontier), where participants will question 'if humanity is doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past?'
